Driven by demand from overseas clients, our International Shipping department in London recently made a successful application for OES to become an authorised customs warehouse. This means that VAT due on artworks imported from outside the EU can be deferred whilst the item is in our care. It only becomes payable when the item is installed somewhere on permanent display or sold.

This facility has enabled us to move into the handling of art fairs as works protected by customs bonds can be removed from the warehouse for a period of ninety days.

Clients of OES are now able to enjoy the highest possible level of safekeeping for the storage and management of their collections with the company’s recent acquisition of a top security site ideally suited for art storage.

The high security vaults are set within a chalk hillside and are located at a former high security Royal Naval Armaments Depot situated close to the M27/M3 corridor.

Each of the vaults has been re-furbished and equipped specifically for the arts community. Each benefits from a controlled stable environment, bespoke designed dehumidifier system, CCTV, anti-spark lighting, overhead gantry cranes, fire and security alarms and is approved for items covered by the Government Indemnity Scheme.
